FOR FIREARMS DEALERS, FFL HOLDERS, RANGES & INDUSTRY BUSINESSES

Your License Is Your Livelihood. Your Business Is Worth Defending.

Running a firearms business requires commercial judgment within a separate federal and state licensing framework. An ATF finding, dealer-license inquiry, ownership change or supplier disagreement can threaten continuity in different ways. BOLO advises appropriate FFL and firearms-business operators on legal issues that can be evaluated within its scope, while distinguishing licensing obligations from the underlying commercial dispute.

ATF AND NJSP DEFENSE

Received an inspection report or licensing notice?

A federal ATF finding and a New Jersey licensing inquiry are distinct legal matters. Start with the notice, preserve the record, identify the deadline and evaluate counsel.

HAVE A NOTICE, DEADLINE, OR INVESTIGATION?

The first response can shape everything that follows.

If your firearms business receives a regulator’s inquiry, inspection findings, a subpoena, a demand, or notice of possible licensing action, identify the deadline, preserve relevant records, and obtain advice before deciding how to respond. Early legal involvement can help establish the facts and organize the response. No particular outcome is guaranteed.

PRACTICAL LEGAL SUPPORT FOR HIGH-STAKES BUSINESSES

When a legal problem threatens your operations, you need a plan.

A firearms business may face regulatory demands and ordinary business problems at the same time. BOLO approaches those issues together, with a clear understanding that each matter must be evaluated for the appropriate scope of representation.

Commercial Disputes & Litigation

Vendor and distributor conflicts, contracts, payment disputes, business ownership disagreements, and litigation affecting day-to-day operations.

Contracts, Growth & Outside Counsel

Commercial agreements, purchases and sales, ownership transitions, employment and contractor arrangements, and accessible ongoing legal advice as the business grows.

WHY BOLO

I know how investigators build a case. I know what businesses stand to lose.

I am Brian O’Loughlin, a New Jersey attorney, former Deputy Attorney General, and former healthcare program-integrity investigator. My experience includes government investigations, regulatory enforcement, evidence review, and business operations. I bring that investigative perspective to helping owners understand allegations, assess the record, and make informed legal decisions.

My government investigative experience was outside the ATF. Firearms-specific federal or state licensing questions are evaluated individually, including whether experienced firearms-regulatory co-counsel is warranted.

Frequently Asked Questions

I received an ATF or state agency notice. Can I contact BOLO?

Yes. Send a brief description of the matter, the jurisdiction, and the response deadline. We will assess conflicts, availability, relevant admissions, and whether firearms-regulatory co-counsel is appropriate before accepting an engagement.

Can BOLO advise my business outside New Jersey?

Representation depends on the jurisdiction and the particular legal issue. Matters outside counsel’s current admissions are assessed for permissible representation and, when needed, appropriate local or specialized counsel.

Do I need a crisis to engage outside counsel?

No. BOLO also advises businesses on agreements, disputes, ownership decisions, and ongoing legal risk. The goal is useful counsel before a problem disrupts operations.
